Ruínas Romanas de Tróia (Portugal).

This study analysis three samples of the fish derived from Tróia (Workshop 2), dated to the 2nd century, and to the 4th-5th centuries AD. The results show that, like other factories in the Lisbon region, the sardine Sardina pilchardus was the basis of the products found in the factory for making fish products. Comparing individual size distribution, it is evident that the sample dated to the 2nd century AD was produced using larger specimens. Comparing the data with information available in classical texts, we propose that the samples document sauce production (garum, hallec, among others). ONGOING COOPERATION

RAJG (Setúbal, Portugal).

The finds reported here derive from one samples of fish bones found in a Dressel 14 amphorain Setúbal (Rua António Joaquim Granjo, 19), and constitute the first evidence of fish remains from the 1st century AD in Lusitania. The results show that the products found in the amphora derive from whole sardines (Sardina pilchardus). Sample features and individual size distribution are compared in a description and discussion of the contents of the amphora. This information is compared to other known finds of similar nature.
